Too Late. Or Too Early
Changing the keys of a computer will not improve, still less change, the operating system. Just as the most virtuous pianist in the world, set before the keys of an out-of-tune piano, will manage neither to render a score coherently and harmoniously nor to tune the piano “on the run of the keys”.
That is why I have been, and shall remain, convinced that the solution for reforming a dysfunctional system, for putting it right and improving it, is the “rewriting” of the system itself, and not merely the changing of its “operators”.
The mere changing of the “operators” of that perverted, virus-ridden system, grown unworkable and even noxious, cannot lead to the rectification of the system, but most probably to the perversion and “infection” of the operators — even when they are, ab initio, of good faith.
Without “rewriting the operating system”, or at the very least without setting clear, coherent objectives bound up in a synthetic vision aimed at a profound reform of the State, any “change” is nothing other than what the Poet impeccably distilled in the lines “Other masks, the selfsame play, / Other mouths, the selfsame scale,”…
That is the reason why I personally believed that a resetting and an “upgrading” of the “system” must be done from outside the system, directly by the beneficiaries of the “system” — by the citizens directly! and solely in their interest. And since the virus-ridden, unworkable “system”, the “out-of-tune piano” of which I speak, is the Romanian State itself, I believed that the one who must reset the system, who must tune the piano by himself and for himself, is the Romanian citizen himself, that “simple citizen” in the street.
As a “simple citizen”, alongside you, “simple citizens”, I tried to do this three years ago with #TheSovereigntyLaw (the moment of birth of the concept of “sovereigntism” in Romania), two years ago with #TheSolidarityLaw and this year, after two and a half years of ample public discussion and consultation, alongside some of the greatest legal specialists of our times, I proposed #TheConstitutionOfSovereignty.
For more than a month I have been speaking to you about this last one, and I have explained as concisely as I could how the proposed amendments lead to the strengthening and guaranteeing of the rights of the Romanian citizen, to the limiting of the power and influence of the intelligence services over society, to the increase of Parliament’s power and the diminishing of the President’s, to the strengthening of democracy and the guaranteeing of the independence of the judiciary, to the defence of sovereignty and the increase of the national wealth.
And I invited you to become volunteers for it.
Of course, I understood that the System in office, perverted and virus-ridden as it is, and its operators, perverted and virus-ridden in their turn, would react and would reject as a foreign body any proposal of change, any attempt to tune a piano too worn to sound harmonious any more. Which is precisely what happened. #TheSovereigntyLaw was brutally thrown out in Parliament in 2022 by #TheCoalitionOfTreason, and this year the Legislative Council showed its true colours and made a fool of itself with the opinion it gave on #TheConstitutionOfSovereignty. But all that I expected.
What I did not expect was to receive no support whatever, not even a sign, from any of the great leaders who preach sovereigntism — enlightened leaders, moreover, whose names I am not even worthy to pronounce. For yes, I went and, humbly, asked for support and offered unconditionally the whole project for revising the Constitution to each one of them, asking nothing, absolutely nothing of a personal nature in return (and all this I could prove, were there any sense in it, with the entire correspondence sent to them — correspondence that remained unanswered).
In these circumstances, since fewer than 1,000 citizens have come forward as volunteers to this date, and since they, in the time remaining, with all the goodwill and all the effort they might make, would not be able without the structures of large parties to gather at least 500,000 signatures in support of the #TheConstitutionOfSovereignty project, nothing remains but to thank all of you who were still able to hope and still willing to believe that we can change this country for the better.
In particular I thank you — you know who you are (and if ever you permit me, I shall name each one of you in a future post) — you who have worked these last two and a half years to give juridical form to a dream, to a project of an ideal country. But you too, who offered yourselves as volunteers and took on an immense labour, as well as those who have already signed the forms supporting the project for revising the Constitution.
We all know, we were and are convinced, that what we have done is the only way still to save this people, this country. The words may seem large, but they are not. The future will confirm it, and the fact that our projects remain as a witness across time in the Official Gazettes in which they were published will demonstrate it: any work of restoring the Romanian State will without doubt follow this path and, perhaps, who knows?, will even use the same words to clothe the only ideas and principles that can secure us continuity, prosperity and dignity as a nation.
But for us, most probably, it will no longer matter.
What does matter, however, is the fact that, in complete good faith and utterly disinterested, we did together what we believed: we worked together for the good and for the truth. And for that, now, at the end of our labour, I thank you once again!
For the rest, to do what still needed doing… it is too late. Or too early!
Only for hoping and believing is it never either too late! or too early!
So help us God!
