Under the Sign of Hatred
For thirty years we have been indoctrinated into hatred, with hatred. We live in hatred, we feed on hatred, we love with hatred, we die of hatred.
We are given gall to eat and gall to drink!
Evil is the other. The “neighbour” is, every single time, the cause of our failures and our shortcomings, the cause of our personal ruin. And of our social ruin too! If only the other had not been there… things would have gone otherwise, the world would have been otherwise: I should have had everything, the world would have been mine!
All this has its origin in the programmatic swelling of the ego, pursued systematically from the very first years of school. And this is not from yesterday, nor from today, nor even from 1989! No, it has been worked at for at least a hundred years, if not since 1789 — since man was left alone, without God, without a horizon; since a lax and vague “humanism” has not ceased to harden, ever more coarsely and brutally, into “individualism”.
And for that, the first responsible party is the school!
If we draw the line, the only thing we truly come away with from school is… hatred! You must be “top of the class”, you must be the best, you must beat everyone at the olympiads, at the competitions. YOU must be the best. YOU must be! The rest does not count.
Exacerbated ego-hood and individuality have become axiomatic in the existence of modern and post-modern man, becoming a doctrine, becoming that “-ism” which shattered the old social order, the community, the communion — all of them grown too small, too narrow for the self that had become the sole purpose of the age of individualism.
The individual matters more than anything: more than the family, more than society, more than the nation! Who is still willing to sacrifice himself, to die for someone or for something? No one. For no one today still believes that anything is more important than himself. For today everything begins with the self, is done only for the self, and ends with the self. The enemy of modern man is everything that limits or denies the self: God, faith, family, community, kin, nation!
Individualism is, in the end, nothing but the wellspring, the single necessary and sufficient cause of Globalism! And that because the self endures no limits other than those which the reason feeding it can perceive: the globe. Indeed, even the Earth seems to remain too narrow for man’s ego…
In other words: one must not look for the cause of globalisation, of globalism, in the political doctrines of our day. For the “political currents” do nothing but divide, inciting to hatred whole social classes, professional categories, kinds of men, races. We have had class hatred — the rich hating the poor and the poor the rich; race hatred — all of us hating one another because we are of other colours; confessional hatred — because we do or do not hold certain beliefs, and lately because we hold any belief at all; the hatred of any group of men against another group, against all the others, because they are not like them. But hatred still bound them to one another; hatred long provided an identity of the group; hatred was still the lowest common denominator. And it still is — this is plain in all the so-called political grouplets of our days.
Only that group hatred does not satisfy the ego sufficiently. For within every organised band of hatred each one is entitled to believe, is he not, that he hates harder, more intensely than the next man. He is first at “hating”, he is the most worthy to be the foremost “hater”… I know, I am straining the seams of the Romanian language, which proves too small for so much hatred — whence the loanwords *heităr*, “hater”, and *heităreală*, “hatering”.
Let us understand the painful reality of our days: the pandem(on)ic little beast does nothing but bring (by chance or not) to the swollen ego, to the hater indoctrinated in individualism, the ultimate motive for his holistic, generalised hatred: the enemy is my neighbour, masked or unmasked; the other is the cause of My death; the others, all the others, are against me!
In fact, Hatred has in our days become a doctrine of state — more than that, an official global doctrine: the first common doctrine, the thing that “unites” us being hatred, the doctrine of hatred!
And the doctrine of hatred is nothing but the natural corollary of individualism; it is the common denominator of tomorrow’s globalised and globalist world.
But since I know that not only the subject but also too much writing draws upon itself the hatred of the reader whose time I am stealing, I urge you: hate no longer! Stop the hatred, and things will surely go better with us.
I lay no claim to originality in this message — quite the contrary: communion within the community, the love of one’s neighbour and the breaking of the heart, the quenching of the self, are the foundations of every tradition, of every religion in the world.
But since I know that the mere mention of the word religion, or God, would exclude some of the recipients of my word from the outset, I shall put it all in post-modern, pre-apocalyptic form:
