Cîțu Is a Mole
I have no doubt whatever. And he is not merely one of our own little Securitate men — he is under double command: from here and from across the pond.
Everything, absolutely everything in his curriculum vitae, his colourless personality and mediocre intellect, all the backing he enjoys from the very highest spheres in spite of his dusty and proven criminal past, all his anti-national deeds — from the speculative attack on the Leu a few years ago to the doubling of Romania’s foreign debt in a matter of months — strengthens my conviction that this axe-handle is not like any other axe-handle in our politics… there is something “special” about this particular axe-handle.
What is to be done?
In the short term I do not know… we should probably take to the streets in great numbers, for the opposition is impotent and the disaster is imminent.
In the long term, however, we must not allow such a thing to happen again; we must no longer permit agents of foreign powers to reach offices of public dignity or public authority.
How?
By criminalising the deed, by bringing it within the sphere of the criminal law, by qualifying it as TREASON.
That is the reason why, in the latest version of the Sovereignty Law, Article 394 of the Criminal Code was amended and the reach of the criminal law was extended to this deed and to this category of perpetrators as well.
Here is how Article 9(9) of #TheSovereigntyLaw reads:
“In Article 394, paragraph (1), a new letter is inserted, letter e), with the following content:
“e) the exercise of an office of public dignity or of an office entailing the exercise of State authority.”
In the Statement of Reasons of the Sovereignty Law I also set out why such an amendment is imperatively necessary:
“Paragraph 9 inserts a new letter into Article 394 of the Criminal Code, under the marginal heading Treason — letter e — which criminalises the deed of a Romanian citizen who enters into contact with a foreign power or organisation, or with agents thereof, for the purpose of suppressing or impairing the unity and indivisibility, the sovereignty or the independence of the State, by exercising an office of public dignity or an office entailing the exercise of State authority. Account was taken of the fact that the exercise of an office of public dignity, or of an office entailing the exercise of State authority, by the active subject of the offence of treason — that is, by the Romanian citizen who has entered into contact with a foreign power or organisation or with agents thereof for the purpose of suppressing or impairing the unity and indivisibility, the sovereignty or the independence of the State — constitutes a danger to national sovereignty and to the security of the State. The exercise of such an office of public dignity, or of an office entailing the exercise of State authority, constitutes a state of real and imminent danger to the constitutional and legal order of Romania, and the existence of the means provided for in letters a to d of Article 394 of the Criminal Code is not required; for which reason, in defence of national sovereignty and of economic, financial, sanitary and social security, the criminalisation of this deed is necessary precisely in order to avert the consequences of the criminal actions of citizens who have entered into contact with a foreign power or organisation or with agents thereof, the accession of such persons to such an office being itself the very aim pursued by the foreign powers and organisations or by their agents. At the same time, account was taken of the fact that the offence of High Treason, provided for and punished by Article 398 of the Criminal Code, criminalises only deeds committed by ‘the President of Romania or by another member of the Supreme Council of National Defence’, leaving outside the criminal sphere the deeds committed by all other persons exercising offices of public dignity or offices entailing the exercise of State authority.”
Moreover, should the legislative amendment take place during Cîțu’s term of office, the newly criminalised deed could produce its effects in his regard too… and he would risk a sentence of 10 to 20 years’ imprisonment. It is only fair to say that he already has a little training… 2 days are a good start towards 20 years!
