No, We Have No Cause for Panic
My dears,
No, I really do not believe we have grounds for alarm as regards the coronavirus. I shall not insist. The picture below will tell you everything.
Even so, nothing will protect us from the wave of hysteria set off by… I know not whom, or what.
What can we do?
It has “happened” that the wave of hysteria strikes us at this time of year. During the Great Fast.
Instead of panicking… I propose that we pray and observe a few simple rules. Rules proper to the Great Fast.
Be clean. In body and in soul. Wash yourselves and cleanse yourselves. Wash your body whenever you have occasion, and refrain from useless meetings and wanderings.
Eat little, and eat fasting food. Buy frozen vegetables and eat the preserves you made in the autumn.
Do not avoid seeing those in need. The Lord did not avoid the sick and the lepers. Be human beings, at any risk. It is worth it.
For the rest, have faith, hope and love.
Finally I shall remind you of the rules of life proper to these days: “During the Fast of Holy Pascha one fasts thus: on the first two days — Monday and Tuesday of the first week — a complete fast is recommended, or, for the weaker, abstinence until towards evening; likewise on the first three days — Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday — and on the last two days — Friday and Saturday — of Holy Week. On Wednesday one abstains until evening, when bread and boiled vegetables without oil are eaten. Throughout the rest of the fast, on the first five days of the week — Monday to Friday inclusive — one eats dry food once a day, in the evening; and on Saturday and Sunday twice a day, boiled vegetables with oil and a little wine.”
What are we to understand from this trial, politically speaking?
That we are not permitted, for any reason whatsoever, to play with the public health system.
Any measure that damages the emergency service amounts to an act of national betrayal. And it must be punished accordingly.
