The Rule of Law Kills
For fifteen years Romania has had a single national project: the Ruleoflaw! We have done nothing else and have proposed to do nothing else. We created institutional monsters with pharaonic budgets — witness the Prosecutor’s Offices and the Secret Services, among them the STS; we bowed down to the idol called “the independence of justice” and created a class of untouchable demigods — the magistrates — all with the declared purpose of defending “the legal order”, of “fighting corruption”…
After the successive nightmares from which we cannot manage to wake, we realise at last, even at the level of a people, that the whole thing is a grotesque lie with terrifying consequences: the citizen, more than ever, is left at the mercy of madmen or crooked profiteers; his life is worth less than ever… because the Ruleoflaw is busy with “anti-corruption” — in fact a settling of accounts, a petty struggle for power among those who have held power for thirty years!
Iohannis confirmed this to us explicitly: yesterday, after we learned with horror that the gorged representatives of the Ruleoflaw had waited at the door of a serial killer (on the express order of a demigod — a provincial prosecutorling once decorated by Codruța Kövesi), waiting for the monster to take one more life, to destroy a few more destinies — in the evening, Klaus Werner Iohannis comes out onto the promenade of the presidential villa at Neptun with a communiqué in which he speaks to us of… corruption!
Klaus would have been right if the corruption of which he spoke in his communiqué had been the institutionalised moral corruption to which the Romanian people has been left prey throughout his term. It is not institutional corruption that is Romania’s problem… but the institutionalised corruption which has preyed upon the soul and the mind of Romanian citizens! Romanians have been bribed with idiotic slogans by which they were set against one another, cast into the darkness of self-hatred as a people; they accepted simplistic explanations for the state of the country and of themselves… The ideological backhander, the moral bribe with which this people let itself be corrupted, was prettily wrapped in a fine package called “the rule of law”. Few wished to see that beyond the wrapping and the glass beads served up by propaganda there lay only the interests and the battles of the profiteers of these times: Klaus Werner Iohannis and his Ruleoflaw.
Now, dazed, we try to wake from the nightmare induced over the last decade and a half: we see that our children are sold like animals for export. And the Ruleoflaw not only accepts it but takes an active part in this business. We see that our girls are raped and butchered. While the Ruleoflaw waits at the gate for the chance to draw up one more spectacular case file. Perhaps even a promotion, who knows, for the prosecutor who caught the murderer he had seconded.
The height of it! Romanians observe that our children are dying or being sold for thirty pieces of silver even though Dragnea is already in prison… and Mazăre too! And Nicușor Constantinescu… and how many others like them. And still they are no better off!
Romanians are beginning to realise that you can build nothing while you are fighting… for non-combatants every fight brings only losses and collateral victims. Now, the Romanian citizen is beginning to realise that “the fight against corruption” is not his fight… it is the internecine war of the gangs contending for power, fuelled with resources by the final beneficiaries of this country’s disaster: our foreign suzerains.
The Romanian citizen realises that the Ruleoflaw was never conceived for him, to defend his rights and interests, but for them, for the few. In fact, never has the Romanian citizen, his life, his hopes and his legitimate expectations been less important, never have they counted for less than in the Age of the Ruleoflaw.
Yes! The Ruleoflaw kills! And it kills not only through gross negligence or incompetence but with direct intent, like the monster of Caracal: it kills the future of this country!
