“Many Happy Returns” on the Day of the Romanian Language

Long life to you, much and good, for through you the Romanian language lives!

Love one another and multiply, for through you and your children the Romanian language will go on.

The Romanian language will be alive as long as you and your children are alive!

Be not foolish and speak it correctly, and your tongue will not decay!

Be worthy and proud of it, and Romanian will not be mangled!

Speak Romanian everywhere, and everywhere you will be at home!

And do not forget: the Romanian language is not our language; we belong to the Romanian language!

That is why, in order to defend this place,

this last unconquered redoubt of Romanian-ness, we must defend ourselves, every one of us, every face and every soul of this language!

Many happy returns!
