Winterwhite (a poem)
Winterwhite
Whence so much white in this black world of ours? / Might it be an angel / shaking from his wings / edges softened into sweet shapes of wax / beneath a coverlet carved / into a flake by the wind that flutters it? / Abstract.
A gift from above unites the firmament with the earth / in a white unity / that erases the accidental, / that melts the boundary and makes it vanish. / And indistinction / is about to appear in the world: / the Miracle.
And time now stops. Only the flake that animates it / still drives on, in its flight, / a dream that nourishes us. / The manifold hides itself in the archetypal scheme. / Here is the pleasure / which alone delivers me: / Silence.
